The oldest substantial texts are receipts, not poetry.
The earliest Sumerian tablets record quantities of grain, beer and livestock, and appear to have evolved from clay tokens used to track goods. Literature came much later. One famous Old Babylonian tablet is a customer complaint about the quality of delivered copper.
