A single human eye can detect a single photon
The smallest possible quantity of light is not below your threshold.
In carefully controlled darkness, human observers can report single photons arriving at the retina at rates better than chance. Individual rod cells respond to one photon; the difficulty is that downstream processing filters out most single events as noise. Under the right conditions, some get through.
