Fact
A stomach ulcer is usually an infection
Two researchers were ignored for years. One of them drank the bacteria to prove it.
Ulcers were long blamed on stress and spicy food. Barry Marshall and Robin Warren identified Helicobacter pylori as the cause; facing scepticism, Marshall drank a culture of it, developed gastritis, and cured himself with antibiotics. They received the Nobel Prize in 2005, and ulcers became a curable infection.
