Write to find out whether you actually have a thought
Most of what feels like thinking dissolves the moment you try to write it in full sentences.
Do this
Take a belief you hold and write the argument for it in prose - not bullets, which let you skip the connective work. Where you cannot make a sentence connect to the next one, you have found a gap rather than a wording problem.
Why it works
There is no strong experimental literature on writing as a general thinking tool, so treat this as reasoning from adjacent evidence: the illusion of explanatory depth is well demonstrated, self-explanation improves understanding, and prose forces the causal links that lists conceal.
Where it fails
Honestly rated thin. It is inference from related findings, not a tested intervention. Some people think better by talking or by drawing, and there is no evidence writing is universally superior.
How you’ll know
If your first draft of an argument you were sure about comes out shorter and vaguer than expected, that is the finding.
