Ancient Greek texts have almost no word for blue

Ancient Greek colour vocabulary organised around brightness and saturation more than hue, and lacked a dedicated term for blue. This is part of a broad cross-linguistic pattern: languages acquire colour terms in a fairly consistent order, with blue typically arriving late. Their eyes worked; their categories differed.
