Meditations was never meant to be read

Marcus Aurelius wrote it as a private notebook while on campaign. The most-quoted Stoic text is a man arguing with himself.

It changes how the book reads. The repetition stops looking like emphasis and starts looking like someone who kept needing the same reminder.

That is oddly reassuring. The most disciplined man in the empire had to tell himself to get out of bed.
