Teaching began there roughly two centuries before Tenochtitlan was founded.

Teaching is recorded at Oxford from around 1096, with rapid growth after 1167. Tenochtitlan was founded in 1325 and the Aztec Triple Alliance formed in 1428. Oxford was already a functioning medieval university before the empire existed.
