Old TV static was partly the birth of the universe
A small percentage of that snow was radiation from 380,000 years after the Big Bang.
The cosmic microwave background is faint radiation released when the universe first became transparent. It permeates all of space, and analogue televisions tuned between channels picked up a small fraction of it – roughly one per cent of the noise. It was discovered by accident in 1964 by engineers trying to eliminate an unexplained hiss.
