Mount Everest is not the tallest mountain, by two different measures
It wins on altitude and loses on height, and loses again on distance from the centre of the Earth.
Measured from base to summit, Mauna Kea in Hawaii is over 10,000 metres, most of it underwater. Measured as distance from Earth’s centre, the equatorial bulge puts Chimborazo in Ecuador furthest out. Everest holds the title only for elevation above sea level.
