There is a patch of your visual field with no receptors at all. You have never seen it.
Where the optic nerve leaves the retina there are no photoreceptors, creating a blind spot roughly the size of nine full moons in each eye. Rather than showing you a gap, the brain fills the space with whatever pattern surrounds it – a fabrication so seamless that you can only find the spot with a deliberate test.
