You know the first letter, the rhythm, the number of syllables. You cannot reach the word.
In tip-of-the-tongue states people can reliably report partial features of a word they cannot retrieve, and they are usually right. It demonstrates that a memory is stored as separable components rather than a single lump, and that knowing you know is itself a distinct process.
