Two metres per cell, and you have tens of trillions of cells.
The DNA in a single human cell measures roughly two metres end to end, packed into a nucleus a few microns across. Multiplied across the body, the total length runs to billions of kilometres. The packing problem – fitting two metres into a space that small, while keeping it readable – is one of the genuine marvels of cell biology.
