Honey found in Egyptian tombs was still edible
Thousands of years old, and chemically it had barely moved.
Honey’s low water content, acidity and hydrogen peroxide production make it hostile to microbial growth. Sealed properly it does not spoil. Archaeologists have reported recovering honey from ancient Egyptian tombs in preserved condition – one of very few foods that essentially never goes off.
