Crows remember faces and tell their friends
Researchers wore masks. Years later, birds that were never captured still scolded the mask.
In a long-running study, crows captured by researchers wearing a particular mask harassed anyone wearing it afterwards. The behaviour spread to birds that had never been caught, and persisted for years – indicating both individual face recognition and social transmission of a specific grudge.
