A sperm whale click is louder than a jet engine
Loud enough that it has been suggested it could stun prey.
Sperm whale echolocation clicks have been measured at over 230 decibels underwater – far above the threshold for damage to human tissue at close range. Underwater and airborne decibel scales are not directly comparable, but by any measure it is the loudest sound produced by an animal.
