Fact
Humans are among the best long-distance runners alive
We lose almost every sprint and win a surprising number of marathons.
Sweating over a hairless body allows humans to shed heat while moving, whereas most quadrupeds must stop and pant. Combined with elastic tendons and stabilising anatomy, this makes humans unusually good at sustained running in heat – the basis for the persistence hunting hypothesis about our evolution.
